10 Minute Class

For my 10 minute class, my main topic was about knowing your Miranda rights. I know that a lot of people have heard the Miranda rights being read to someone like on television, but it may not have ever crossed their mind that those same rights might be read to them one day. I think that knowing your rights is very important especially when your freedom is in the hands of someone else.

I prepared my 10 minute class by watching videos on the subject of Miranda Rights and videos about what to do when arrested. I made a slide stating the Miranda rights and the context of it. One thing I learned from this is that people need A LOT OF Direction. My targeted audience for this presentation was black males. After receiving questions from the Q & A portion I realized that people ask question that are clearly stated in the presentation. On the other hand I did receive some good questions too.

Week 12

When it comes to government regulation, I think it is very helpful when the government has the public’s best interest in mind. Having multiple bureaucracies such as the cabinet departments, independent regulatory agencies, independent executive agencies, and government corporations keeps decision-making is like a form of checks and balances. Each bureaucracy has it’s own function.

Oversight powers are given to congress, the president, and citizens. When it comes to citizens, they benefit from their oversight powers by being allowed to vote and the freedom of information act. The freedom of information Act says that ” generally provides that any person has the right to request access to federal agency records or information except to the extent the records are protected from disclosure by any of nine exemptions contained in the law or by one of three special law enforcement record exclusions.” (foia.state.gov)

Week 11

So I am pretty sure that everyone is aware of the elections coming up in June. I have been seeing commercials for the candidates and they all seem like good choices. I wish I could pick them all. LOL. One that is particularly sticking out to me to Miya Wilkes. She is an African American women who’s focus is on the reforming the police and putting an end to police brutality. That topic is something that effects me too being I am African American.

While I have never experienced Police brutality or racism, when I racism I mean direct racism. It still affects me. I hope I never have to face these things face to face but it is most likely that I will.

Week 11

When it comes to the Electoral college this topic wasn’t  something I always understood.  I understand now that each state gets a certain amount of electors determined by the census. The amount of electores varies from states. In order for a candidate to become president they have to get 270 electoral votes. Also a candidate can have more votes than the next but still loose if they do not reach that 270 mark.

This brings me to the topic Popular vote. The popular vote is basically when a candidate has a lot more people who voted for them but not enough electoral votes. For example, a candidate can win Texas, Florida, and New York and that adds up to 96 electoral votes.

5/11/2021

I am finally fully Vaccinated. I thought after the second Pfizer shot I would have horrible symptoms. In reality I was pretty Ok. The Only effect the Pfizer shot had on me was arm pain and tiredness in my body. If getting vaccinated is something you are worried about you should talk to your doctor and vaccinated people. I am actually glad CUNY  is requiring a COVID-19 Vaccination in order to return to classes.

When it comes to the vaccine I know some people’s biggest concern is the symptoms it can have on your body. I think it’s a risk people should be willing to take because not getting vaccinated is also putting yourself at risk to get COVID. I promise COVID-19 symptoms are way worse than the vaccine.

Week 10

After reading this week’s chapter and watching the crash course videos, I’ve learned a new term – The Plurality Rule. This states that the candidate with the most votes wins. The amount of votes does not have to be a majority but more than the other candidates. This leads me to another term I learned, The Majority Rule. This states that a candidate has to get 50% plus 1 vote.

After reading Chapter 9 I believe that all citizens eligible to vote should vote. If you are 18 years of age and older, registering to vote should be mandatory. Some people may feel as if they do not vote it won’t make a change which is not true. Everyone’s Vote Matters.

Joe Biden has given a speech to Congress where he states that everyone over the age of 16 can get vaccinated. Joe Biden also states that “ we need to ensure greater equity and opportunity for women, while we are doing this let’s get the paycheck fairness check to my desk.” I feel as if Joe Biden should be Addressing the Police Brutality going on racial discrimination Black people are facing In America.

4/28/2021 there was a bill introduced To establish the National Police Misuse of Force Investigation Board, and for other purposes.

Week 8

The most important power of the Supreme court is the Judicial Review. The Judicial Review is the “ power of the judiciary to examine and invalidate actions undertaken by the Legislative and executive branches.” While this is the most important power the Supreme court has, the judicial system has powers that are not absolute.

Checks and balances is when the legislative, judicial and executive branches of government have their own jobs. For example, when congress passes a bill the president can approve it or Veto it. The judicial branch can throw out a law even if it has been approved by the president.

Covid -19 Pfizer vaccine

Last week Saturday, I took the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine . While it is known to have some side effects such as arm pain , I have been tired this whole week Monday-Friday. While I am the type of person who takes daily 1hour plus naps the previous week I was energized. Usually I would get out of bed for my Zoom calls and stay up but this week I didn’t even get out of bed. So I am  not 100% sure if I am feeling this way because of the vaccine but it is a probability.

Anyone else taken the vaccine? If so did you have any side effects? What were they? If you haven’t taken the Vaccine are you going to why or why not.
