First and foremost, hello everyone! I hope you all are safe, well, and healthy. This week was about the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch came from the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The delegates came to an agreement that they needed a branch with strong “chief” power so to speak. But they did not want it to be counted out from the constitution and the checks & balances. The Executive Branch handles everything that has to do with the law. Negotiating treaties, for example, is something that they do. It includes the president, vice president, the cabinet, etc. They essentially are supposed to make sure that law is being followed correctly and that they are obeyed. They preserved the liberty of the people. They do rely on some level of humanity and social ethics to balance the country out though. If there was no executive branch, we would have no president which would live the country unprotected and it would be chaotic.

In the first 100 days of Biden’s presidency, he has accomplished quite a bit. He signed a $1.9 trillion Covid relief bill, delivered 200 million vaccinations, and eligibility for the vaccine is open for everyone 16 and older.

Biden’s response is a total contrast to that of Trump. His original goal of 100 million vaccinations was already reached in March. That number has since doubled as of April 21st, 2021. In order to achieve this he invoked the Defense Production Act with Pfizer, and Moderna. He also had deals with pharmaceutical companies Merck, and Johnson and Johnson. His administration also increased access to vaccines by starting a federal retail pharmacy program to create more vaccination sites. This set up federally run vaccination centers across the country.

He and his administration achieved more than this within the first 100 days. Below is an article of some of the milestones he reached.

4/28/2021 there was a bill introduced To establish the National Police Misuse of Force Investigation Board, and for other purposes.

The most important power of the Supreme court is the Judicial Review. The Judicial Review is the “ power of the judiciary to examine and invalidate actions undertaken by the Legislative and executive branches.” While this is the most important power the Supreme court has, the judicial system has powers that are not absolute.

Checks and balances is when the legislative,judicial and executive branches of government have their own jobs. For example, when congress passes a bill the president can approve it or Veto it. The judicial branch can throw out a law even if it has been approved by the president.

Last week Saturday, I took the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine . While it is known to have some side effects such as arm pain , I have been tired this whole week Monday-Friday. While I am the type of person who takes daily 1hour plus naps the previous week I was energized. Usually I would get out of bed for my Zoom calls and stay up but this week I didn’t even get out of bed. So I am  not 100% sure if I am feeling this way because of the vaccine but it is a probability.

Congress is made up of two groups, The House Of Representatives and The Senate. Congress can propose a bill but both groups have to approve. In order to be a part of Congress you must, be a resident of the state and constitutionally eligible. Congress passes laws, power to declare law and deals with trade policy and foreign aid.

During the pandemic, Congress has been working on passing a COVID-19 Relief Bill. When it comes to mail-in voting, Congress will continue to allow that since some states were doing that before COVID.
